Mothers' Union - Eccleshill Branch

St Luke's Eccleshill has one of the largest branches of the Mothers' Union in the diocese, with 53 members (subscribing in 2003). We meet monthly on the first Monday of each month, and also for various other activities.

The Aim of the Mothers' Union is the advancement of the Christian religion in the sphere of marriage and family life. In order to carry out this aim there are five objects:

  1. to uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding;
  2. to encourage parents to bring up their children in the faith and life of the Church;
  3. to maintain a world wide fellowship of Christians united in prayer, worship and service;
  4. to promote conditions in society favourable to stable family life and the protection of children;
  5. to help those whose family life has met with adversity.

For further details, you may visit the Mothers' Union at the national website at www.themothersunion.org or telephone them at 020 7222 5533. On their website you will find details of the wave of prayer and daily prayers, the origins of Mothering Sunday, and a range of other information.

Programme for 2006

Our programme tries to help us meet the aims of the MU (above), as well as to provide an enjoyable time for those who come to our meetings. All meetings start at 7.30pm in the narthex (the glassed-in room at the back of the church building), begin with an act of worship (using the Mothers' Union Service Book), and include refreshments (usually after the speaker or discussion).
