Calverley Deanery Pastoral Plan

Here are the details of the PCC's responses to the consultation on the options, as presented to the Synod on 13th February 2006:

PCC Responses:

PCC Order of Preference Could not countenance
Idle A, D, B, C -
Greengates A, D, B, C -
Thorpe Edge B, A, C, D -
Calverley D, B, C A
Wrose A, B, C, D -
Bolton D, A, B -
Eccleshill C, D, B, A -
St Augustine's B, C, D, A ** -
St Clement's None: "We are happy to work with whatever is decided."
Thornbury C, A B and D*
Woodhall D, C, B, A -
Pudsey D, C (A and B equal third) -
Farsley A B, C and D
Tong "We aren't happy with any" B, C and D*
Laisterdyke D, B, C A*

* Three parishes made explanatory comments on the voting slips or in writing about reasons for not being able to countenance particular options:

Thornbury: B because we prefer to be in a cluster with Woodhall, D because a cluster of 6 parishes is too large and we would like to cluster with others involved in community works.

Laisterdyke: A because a cluster of 2 is not a cluster, and a 0.5 stipend (anywhere) is a step in the wrong direction.

Tong: B, C and D because we would need a lot more details abut what "clustering" is supposed to mean anyway.

** The paper response from St Augustine's had "B, C, A, D", but telephone conversations with the PCC secretary revealed that the synod members' recollections were correct and the response should have been "B, C, D, A".

Single Transferable Voting

The results of these being treated as STV votes are as follows. There are 13 votes cast (Tong were quite clear they were not voting in favour of "A"), so the quota is 6.5: the winning option must get 6.5 votes to succeed.

  A B C D
First Stage 4 2 2 5
Elimination of B 5 - 3 5
Elimination of C 6 - - 7

(The result comes out the same if C is eliminated first)

Accordingly, the motion before the Synod was to choose option D.
